5th - 9th June 2008 - Coral Sea

The weeks expedition welcomed aboard a big group of divers from "Abyss Scuba" in Sydney, along with an international mix from around the world. We began our diving at picturesque Flare Point with amazing corals and an abundance of marine life, including cuttlefish and turtles. Moving on to Steve's bommie, the diving got even better with such critters as leafy scorpionfish, true clownfish and an octopus spotted. Coupled with the large schools of trevally and barracuda, the diving was incredible.

Day 2 provided another great day of diving at Lighthouse Bommie with turtles, sea snakes, mantis shrimp, an orangutan crab and a few long-nosed harkfish resting in the black coral. Finishing the trip with a couple of divers at the Cod Hole on day 3, the stars were out to play with the Potato Cod being very playful and white tip reef sharks and grey reef sharks being spotted along with the extremely rare hairy ghost pipefish. A splendid time had by all.

9th - 12th June 2008 - Cod Hole and Ribbon Reefs

Beginning with a low level flight over the Great Barrier Reef and landing on Lizard Island meant big smiles on all the faces of guests boarding Spoilsport. The smiles began to grow when we entered the water at the Cod Hole and found many of the Potato Cod waiting for us just below the surface, mixed with white tip reef sharks and grey reef sharks. A Bull shark was also spotted along with pygmy seahorses and a hariy ghost pipefish.

Waking up the next morning at Acropolis, everyone was excited to see some of the best coral life on the Great Barrier Reef. Moving to Lighthouse Bommie, the good times kept rolling with a few minke whales showing up for a few hours of playtime. To see a mother and calf was the highlight of the trip and many hours were spent with the whales. The trip ended with some great dives on the last day; leafy scorpionfish, turtles, barracuda, trevally and turtles were all seen. A great way to finish an incredible trip.
